#Post Pedagogy: Twitter and a Pedagogy of the Act 

In his 2007 book, Acts of Enjoyment, Thomas Rickert calls for a “pedagogy of the act” that values eruptions and whose “goal is not a reversal of valuation…but a transvalutation…achieved through production” (173). This presentation will argue that the use of social media during instruction creates space for the kinds of transgressive acts Rickert theorizes. The uniquely polyvocal environment afforded by twitter encourages students to express multiple and divided subjectivities that characterize postmodern subjects (e.g. Rickert 2007, Foucault 1982, Deleuze and Guattari 1988). By creating a parallel classroom on Twitter that gives voice to student questions and resistance, the speaker asserts that teachers can relinquish some of their power and encourage students to express and disrupt the sometimes homogenizing environment of the classroom.
